When I was a child growing up in northern Maine, it was quite common for the family to take a day trip over to Campobello Island in New Brunswick Canada. Back then no passport was required since the Canadian island is only driving accessible via the US side. [more below]

Campobello Island is home of the Roosevelt Campobello International Park (oddly part of the US Dept of the Interior). The very photo beautiful East Quoddy Head Lighthouse sits at the northern end of the island, overlooking the Bay of Fundy, and can be walked to at low tide. As a child I was always fascinated by the wide array of rocks on the beach Herring Cove Provincial Park, I used to fill my pockets with pretty rocks, after all these years this trip was no different.
